Bio-Inspired Approaches to Evolving Nanocompsoites for Energy Storage

Objective

To develop nanostructured composite materials with potential energy storage applications (particularly lithium battery and supercapacitor) and understand the underlying principles.

Approach

We develop bio-inspired approaches such as the amorphous precursor route to create nanocomposites of transition metal oxides and graphene, which combine charge transfer and transport advantages of both worlds.

Impact

We have developed soft-chemical processes and bio-inspired amorphous precursor methods to anchor inorganic nanocrystals onto graphene oxide sheets, and demonstrated much improved energy storage performances of the relevant devices.
