Prof. SHAO Minhua Received Energy Technology Division Research Award of The Electrochemical Society

Prof. Shao Minhua was honored with the 2026 Energy Technology Division Research Award at the 249th Electrochemical Society Meeting, which was held in Seattle, Washington, US on May 24-28, 2026. First Awardee from a Chinese University Since 1992.

Cheong Ying Chan Professor of Energy Engineering and Environment Prof. SHAO Minhua, Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and Director of the Energy Institute, was honored with the 2026 Energy Technology Division Research Award of The Electrochemical Society (ECS) at the 249th ECS Meeting, which was held in Seattle, Washington, US in May 2026.

Prof. Shao is the first scholar from a Chinese university to receive this honor since the award was established in 1992. He is cited “for his outstanding contribution to the understanding of electrocatalysis and seminal achievements in the development of fuel cell electrocatalysts”.

Among the most competitive honors in the field of electrochemical energy, the Energy Technology Division Research Award recognizes outstanding and original contributions to the science and technology of energy-related research areas. Eligibility requires nominees to be active ECS members with a proven record of impactful publications and leadership in advancing the discipline. Each nomination undergoes rigorous peer review, and only one recipient is selected annually.

As the award recipient, Prof. Shao delivered a presentation titled “Development of High Performance and Durable Fuel Cell Electrocatalysts” during the 249th ECS Meeting.

In addition to this prestigious international accolade, Prof. Shao was recently named a 2026 Fellow of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE). This honor recognizes distinguished scientists for their outstanding contributions to electrochemistry through research, leadership, and service to the scientific community. Only seven Fellows are selected globally for 2026. They will be inducted at the 77th ISE Annual Meeting, which will be held in Sydney, Australia on September 6-11, 2026.
