Profile

Professor Qing Chen is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and the Department of Chemistry, and Associate Director of HKUST Energy Institute. He received his bachelor’s degree from Zhejiang University, and his PhD in Materials Science from Arizona State University. He was a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard University, before joining HKUST.

Prof Chen's research uses materials science and electrochemistry to understand and control self-organization at nanoscales. The same set of knowledge also guides the design of electrochemical devices in his lab, including metal batteries and redox flow batteries, with the aim of addressing the intermittency of renewable energy through grid-scale electricity storage.
